Cleansing Green Juice

One of the major reasons I love juicing is because it allows you to get in an abundance of a VARIETY of produce into your diet, that you wouldn't normally get... cabbage? broccoli? cauliflower? Yup - you can juice them all! The sky is the limit (except don't try avocadoes or bananas, those are the two I would not recommend juicing).  So start getting creative, don't fear putting a cabbage head through your juicer.... I did and it came out fabulous and want to share the recipe!!

Why cabbage?  It's rich in nutrients that support liver detoxification and is specifically known for its glucosinolates, which have shown to have unique cancer prevention properties. Also an excellent source of Vitamin K, C and a good source of B6 and Manganese, this a valuable phytonutrient rich vegetable to include in the diet.

Have no fear, you've got a delicious cabbage juice recipe here!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 head cabbage
  • 2 Carrots
  • 4 Pears
  • 1 head Romaine Lettuce
  • Optional to add 1" Ginger Root

Wash all ingredients.  Push through your juicer at medium-high speed.  Serve over ice or store in a mason jar and keep in the fridge for 24-48 hrs. Serves 24-32 oz.

A Little Bloody Never Killed Nobody (Juice)

Blood Mary anyone?  This is the real deal - no processed junk, pasteurized tomato juices, just fresh veggies for a spicy non-alcoholic cocktail (but feel free to add some vodka if that's your fancy).  Tomatoes are rich in the nutrient lycopene, which is good for heart healthy and helps to improve blood circulation.

Add some jalapeƱo for a real spicy kick! Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 1-3 Red Tomatoes
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 lime
  • handful of Basil
  • *1/4 jalapeno optional
  • *Knob of Horseradish optional

DIRECTIONS: Wash all ingredients well.  Add through the juicer chute.  Serve over ice with a stick of celery to garnish.  Add 1.5 oz of vodka if you want to make it an alcoholic cocktail.

SERVES: 2, 16 oz servings

Orange is the New Black (Juice)

Ok so maybe I really mean to say Orange is the new "Green" (since we don't really juice too many popular "black" foods)...  But seriously, this recipe is SPOT ON! This recipe is one of my personal favorites and a staple I include on a daily basis.  No joke - its THAT good!!

Did you know bell peppers actually have 70% more Vitamin C than an orange?  Orange and yellow colored fruits and veggies contain carotenoids which are good for hair, skin, nails, and immune function.  Enjoy this with some extra ginger to give it an extra kick!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 orange bell pepper (capsicum)

  • 1 yellow bell pepper (capsicum)

  • 1 large carrot

  • 1 green apple

  • 1 lemon, peeled

  • Knob of Ginger

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Wash all ingredients well.  Remove seeds from peppers and choose if you want to peel the lemon.  Add all produce through juicer and enjoy!

SERVES: 2, 16 oz servings

Gratitude to Grapefruit Juice

Gratitude is one of those things that cannot be bought. It must be born with men, or else all the obligations in the world will not create it
— Edward F. Halifax

Looking for an extra citrus punch for your morning wake up? With a combo of greens, and lots of citrus fruits not only will your taste buds pop open, but your immune fighting cells are supercharged with all that Vitamin C!! Grapefruit, lemons and limes all are rich in Vitamin C that helps to combat colds, reduce risk of infection, and prevent against harmful free radicals that damage our cells and can lead to chronic disease and cancer.

Note: Your Citrus Peels actually contains lots of phtoynutrients, like the compound called limonene which has been shown to protect against certain cancers.  It usually is a taste preference for juices (I usually shave about half of my citrus fruits), as the peel will impart a bitter flavor.  But for those that want an extra nutritional WOW - leave the rind on! Just be sure to WASH WELL!!

Serves: 2 servings (each serving 16-20 oz)

  • 3 Ribs celery
  • 3 Limes
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1/2 Grapefruit
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 head Romaine Lettuce
  1. Wash all ingredients well and put through the juicer chute.
