Probiotic Blueberry Smoothie

Probiotics are an excellent way to add healthy bacteria to promote a balanced ecosystem and this delicious smoothie will support just that!  Our gut is referred as our "2nd brain" and we need to ensure we support our gut so that we can promote strong immunity, prevent/fight infection, help to absorb nutrients, help with weight loss/resistance.

What are pro-biotics?  Probiotics are live, active microorganisms, or bacteria that majority reside in our digestive tract.  In our gut, we have "good" and "bad" bacteria.  When we have a high dose of antibiotics, have an infection or auto-immune condition, the balance can become off balance.  The goal is to bring the body back to balance and to create an ecosystem where the bad bacteria won't easily start to take over again.

What foods contain probiotics?

  • Yogurt (must contain live active cultures)

  • Fermented Yogurt (Keifer)

  • Fermented Vegetables (Kimchee, Saurkraut, Fermented Cabbage/Salsa)

  • Probiotic Supplement

  • Kombucha (Fermented Tea)

This recipe include anti-inflammatory rich blueberries that help slow the aging process, reduce inflammation, and help to scavenge harmful free radicals in the body that might be causing cellular damage.  Adding keifer provides probiotic benefits as well proving a good source protein (12-15 g per 1 cup). Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup blueberries

1 cup Plain Keifer

1/2 - 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

DIRECTIONS:
